need some help on clutch plates, should the first plate in be a semi lined type as in the blue book, the one on mine looks like a worn sureflex linning , I can only guess the semi lined type is steel one side linning on the other . the clutch has never been right , but useable any advice please. muller.

The thinner one that looks like it's worn out on mine was the last plate in there is also a slightly dished one
a plane steel that I have first in I think, but there is a thread on here and others don't seem to agree so
do a search as there was quite a discussion about it.

have looked at that , still not resolved the dilemma about the first plate in the clutch basket the manual has a half lined plate with steel side facing inwards , or was this type of plate done away with in favour of a thin type friction lining or doesn't it matter, as for the dished plate saga i go with the blue book, but maybe doesn't matter, the clutch seems to be the Achilles heel of the sport motor ive done shims etc , but still a thing of mystery and wonder maybe some of the older heads have a view to set up ? still shimming the shim in the shimmering light. thanks muller.

Mine works well with a slightly sharp take-up it tended to slip at max torque but does not
now I have changed the set-up, it as the thin plate with friction lining both sides, that
plate is the last in on the outside, the spring slightly dished plate is first in, the springs
and cups are worth changing as the cups stretch and reduce pressure on the plates and
can bottom out, I have never had to shim mine but excessive moment could limit clutch
lift.

thanks ralph for info, have gone with the guru on the dished plate position , think your right on with the clutch cups being stretched have squeezed them up a bit in vice , the nylon thrust washer is wearing thin which wont help, its all getting on a bit in there like its owner, will bolt back up and try it, if anyone has got clutch cups and a nylon washer going spare let us know. thanks muller.
