Gauges rebuildable?

Are the gauges rebuildable? There's a nice kit on ebay in the states. Comes with new glass, o-ring, and bevel ring. But I cant see how to take mine apart. The retaining ring looks like its pressed on. My bike is an early drum brake strada. Maybe you have to pry the retainer off with a small screwdriver...?

Chewing up the bezel is usually the reason not to touch them, but I've never tried, but at the price it might be tempting. However looking at the listing for some reason seller does not ship to the UK.....which is odd or does it mean there is someone else who has the UK rights??

I'm betting a very small screwdriver with some electrical tape on the end might be able to pry the old one off. If the old bezel is damaged throw it away. Now how to crimp the new one in place is another matter. Maybe a large OD hose clamp or a punch?
Here's someone at it,

I think you'll find that kit is the wrong size.
I was told that Smiths bezels are available in the right profile, but with a slightly different diameter. If you replace in pairs, the different is not noticable.
Bezels are best installed with a rolling jig

Hi Toby,
As to 'rebuildable', what is it you need? Are the originals not working, or just rusty/scabby?
Can't help with the former as haven't had to do repairs.
Mine were in the latter (grotty) category, and I used a screwdriver and pliers to tear the old bezels off, unscrewed the mechanisms from the pots and got those zinc plated.
Reassembled the mechanisms and sent the whole lot to AE Pople in Frimley who fitted new glasses and bezels for the princely sum of £40 including return postage.
Now have 'as new' looking clocks.
George.

Hi George, the only problem I can see is the glass is broken in both clocks.

Don't worry Toby,
Pople's provided new glass as part of the deal.
You may need to clean the faces carefully to remove any 'grot' that has appeared due to the broken glass. Not sure how you do this as the black paint is very soft.
Regards,
George.
