carb strip

Post by adrian »

trying to dismantle the carbs, 25VHB....can't see a way of removing float pivot pin...one end is blind and theres nothing to get hold of the other end???

also, the square slide will go back in either way round....but only one way does it shut fully....i assume thats the way it goes in??

Hi Adrian,
Be very careful with the float pin - it is possible to have the carb body break across the pin hole if not careful.
Two non destructive methods of pin removal are 1/ pour boiling water over the pin mounting bosses and wriggle the pin with the tiny bit that sticks out and it may come out, and 2/ use a small drill (1.5mm) and drill a hole to the pin through the blind end so that you can push the pin out. (1 worked on one carb of mine, had to resort to 2 on the other)
Failing that, the only other way is destructive (for the float anyway) in that you will need to "unpeel" the float from around the pin and remove it, then it is simple to grip the pin and persuade it out.

George.

Adrian, as George has already said be carefull when trying to remove pins from floats, they are very tight fit, the slide goes in with the cut out facing outwards to the air filter it runs pretty crap if you fit them wrong way round, which I have done of course!
