Hi all,
Having just sold one of my Velo's I had some money burning a hole in my pocket, and as I seem to have become somewhat addicted to Morini's, when I saw an ad. for a 74 Sport I thought I would have to have a look at it. The bloke was adamant on the phone that it was a sport (it says so in the logbook) but said someone had fitted a Strada front wheel at some point, which he had replaced with a Grimeca 4 L/S brake. I went to have a look and it has not got the S under the front pot. I'm certainly not an expert on Morini's but I walked away as it looked like a sporterized Strada to me. Question is, am I right? Would all Sports have the S stamping?
No regrets at walking away from this one, but I've still got the money and still would love a drum braked Sport.

I have a Strada with S engine (factory fitting) so they are out there. engine also can be swapped
What is the frame number? Sports for the non domestic market have the A1 prefix, Strada A2. If this one started his life in Italy it is a little bit different... Strada & Sport are A3
do you have pictures, maybe we can figure out from the details if it is a genuine Sport..

As I said I'm fairly new to Morini's and no expert, and so before I went to look at the bike, I asked Stuart at NLM if I could identify a genuine sport from the frame number, he said no!!

The only photo is on the Classic bike website and you won't tell much from that, I traveled quite a distance to see the bike but when I got there the vendor was ill and so I got a quick look at the bike, but could not ask questions or see any paperwork, it just felt wrong to me and I've learned that if I go against my gut feeling I usually end up regretting it, and so I walked away. I'm sure the right one will come along.
The German site is good, thanks for that, although I'm not sure specifically what I was meant to be looking at.

I'll keep an eye open for a genuine drum sport

Just had a quick look at the the bike on the Classic Bike site and I think your right, tanks wrong, clip-ons aren't original. Probably a nice bike but not a 74 DBS, but at 74 DBS money.

Hello Si

Just to confirm that all DBS Sports had the A1 frame number prefix including Italian market. The only difference with the Italian market models is there was no engine number though they where stamped up with the obligatory "S". Early drum brake Stradas where A2 and the later Sport and Strada both A3.

I own both '74 and '75 Drum Brake Sports so if you need any further help. (Before you ask they are not for sale...)
