Has anyone had a go and trying to improve the appearance a brake disc? I've got a perfectly good disc that looks awful. Was the finish originally some type of chrome? Is it possible to get them replayed?

The discs are, I am fairly certain, chrome plated. You can get the plating removed but will need to replace the pads to be compatible with the exposed material underneath. Despite what some claim, it is possible and it works well. The disc material is not, however, iron nor is is stainless steel, so the original pads will quickly eat it up. I had my disc ground and grooved by mike at Vintage Brakes many years ago. It took a few tries to find pads to work well: I think they might be Brembo but I do not remember which type of material.

My disc is beginning to wear unevenly. It still works very well but the surface is slightly uneven. It can rust under the brake pads if left sitting for several months, nothing unusual.

You might be better off getting a replacement disc. It would probably be less expensive and safer in the long term.
