LSR Morini gets Fairing
Re: LSR Morini gets Fairing
For those interested, I have finished the initial frontal area measurements for the Morini.
Open bike w/rider with in a tight tuck has a frontal area of 6.2 sq ft and a Cof of drag of about .61
Faired bike w/rider has a frontal area of 6.4 sq-ft and a Cof of drag of about .42 ( based on numbers from the original race bike the fairing was designed for).
What does it all mean ? Well, on paper, the Moroni should top out around 200 kph (125mph).
Not bad for a stock motor with an add-on air pump and megaphones,,,,
If the numbers work out, of course...

Re: LSR Morini gets Fairing
Nice! Where did you get the fairing? Glass from the past?
Re: LSR Morini gets Fairing
Yup ! it was molded off original factory works parts from the early 70's.
As the original was a 750 bike. it needed cutting down to conform to the morini's slightly smaller profile, and it was a beast to get on it on the morini's centerline evenly .
I struggled for day after day with no luck till I remembered how the exhausts all ran on the same side of that road racer ....
As it turns out, the right side panel was made a little larger to clear the pipes.I trimmed down that side and everything started lining up.
I made several mods to further match it to the bike and me, and I have high hopes that it will perform very well at the track.
I can't wait to get all the painted panels back on the bike,,, It will be nice looking for sure....
Thanks for the comment,
Robert

Yeah, it looks good. They make great stuff. I've wanted to buy several things for years now, but haven't got to those projects yet. What I really want first is the full Triumph Thruxton fairing they make (perfect replica). I have a '64 Triumph Bonnie I want to make into a street Thruxton. Someday....

Good luck on the race track, too! I race vintage MX in AHRMA - not much this year though. I always see a guy at the track who races a Ducati single (MX) and a BSA pre-unit (MX) but rides around the grounds on his 350 Morini Strada.
