Hey Guys,
I have inherited my granddads morini 350 (1980)
I love it, currently I have it sorned as there are a few things I want to do to it before I take it for its MOT.
So, firstly, when I turn the fuel tap on (pointing down) it has a constant drip coming out. this cant be normal as a lot of fuel comes out. how do I rectify this?
secondly, and more importantly, is it leaded or unleaded?? how do I know?
does any one have a close up photo of the rear brake lever and its cabling? my granddad had to convert the bike as he only had one leg and so I would like to switch the brake back over to the original place but would like to see how it should look.
How long do you run the engine before closing off the chokes?
I think that is all my questions for now. Is there anything I should know about this bike?
many thanks
Ben
Newbie morini questions
Re: Newbie morini questions
Hi Ben,
inheriting a Morini is indeed a cool thing to happen.
Fuel tap: if you mean it's leaking with the fuel-pipe attached and the leak is coming from the tap itself, the simplest way is to just buy another tap - I guess from NLM. It may be repairable but you might not want to bother. Check it's not the pipe, too, because if you haven't it's wise to replace all those when recommissioning a bike. I'd do the three breather pipes, too.
I was advised by NLM to use this Morey's product in high-octane unleaded and not worry about anything else. If you're somewhere where there's ethanol in all the petrol, there may be another scenario. http://www.moreyoil.co.nz/moreys-upper- ... r-cleaner/
Re the chokes and tickover, I use one choke only for the first 10-15 seconds and she'll idle nicely. This may not be achievable if your carbs haven't been serviced with new jets and gaskets (easily available).
I can't help with the back brake but I bet someone will be along soon who can.
The advice I would give you is this: I believe too many owners have problem-bikes as theirs just aren't ridden enough. Hard to believe with a Morini.
Oh, and we like pictures.
Cheers,
Dom

That's a big yes! Join the Morini Riders' Club if you haven't already, read the forum, and hookup with local owners if you can.Is there anything I should know about this bike?

Re: Newbie morini questions
Hi Ben and welcome to Morini's.
Number one, unless you know all the history and it has been done recently is to change the timing belt. These have a 2-year/12,000 mile life. Not a difficult job with the right puller. Search for EVguru's you tube video 'how to' if you aren't sure what's involved.
Number 2, can you post a picture of your bike, will give people an idea as to what model it is that you have for your footrest question.
George.

Re: Newbie morini questions
Hi Ben
Welcome, and you should have great fun with your Morini. Are you in the UK or elsewhere? Yes, join the club: lots of good advice, friendly and helpful people, and events you can attend to talk to others and look at the bikes, and we can put you in touch with other owners in your area. If you're overseas you can get 'virtual' membership of the club which is good value.
The illustrated parts catalogue is very useful and available from club products via this site.
If you're not yet familiar with North Leicester Motorcycles, I'm sure you soon will be!
Regarding petrol, most people use super-unleaded (Shell V-power or BP Optimate are good) and my 3 1/2s just love the occasional present of a tankful of leaded 4-star, which I can get (at a price!) in Hertfordshire. I bought one of my bikes from NLM and they gave me a bottle of the Morey's fuel additive, but it made no discernible difference...
And yes, pictures please!
Regards
Mark
