Hello All,
It has been months and months since my last post, so here is what has been happening with the Morini LSR project.
First, my computer caught a bad virus last Summer and just ruined all my files and address book which wrecked my ability to surf the web and post.
Took a long time to get things back where they were....Don't wish this on anyone...
Morini was scheduled to run at El Mirage in July,,,, Didn't happen.
Rescheduled for June, and that didn't happen either.... Bike was running, but had horrific starting backfiring issues and overheating problems when it did start up ....
August was Bonneville month, but the bike was far from ready for that.
September and the bike was ready , but the event was rained out.
October race meet was also cancel becaused of wet conditions.
November came and the Morini got to make its maiden pass in competition. Track was being ripped up so badly that one pass was all that seemed prudent to do... Horrible car crash later in the day proved that decision to be correct....
The Morini pulled hard and I was up to 110 mph in 5th gear when the Cylinder Head Temperature went into the "red-zone". Shifted into 6th and backed off the throttle to let the motor cool down some. When the Temp dropped back into the normal range I was under 100 mph. I added some throttle , but not all, and the bike got back up to 108 mph as it crossed the finish line....
Gauges indicate that the carb just can't flow enough gas to keep up with the blower demand above about 3/4 throttle, so the mixture leans out ,,a lot!
I plan on having that taken care of at the next race meet in May....
I've spent December and January modifing and mounting a fairing for the bike... Aero will be first rate ! Pictures soon...
Wish me luck

Looking good. I must admit, i thought the next post would be a picture of metal fragments as the crankshaft tried to exit the crankcases and the pistons decided to make a bid for freedom.
Good luck with the carb enlargement....
Mike.

Hi Mike,
Yes, the bottom end has been a concern, but it has done well so far...
I had quite a scare after a couple of early tuning runs (not at the competition) when the new motor oil turned "black" with fine metal-flake floating in the oil after only about 10 total miles of 80-90 mph handling runs.
I thought "scored pistons" and pulled the heads and slid the cylinders barrels up to see.... Skirts were perfect, so back together everything went...It seems the heat and rpm was flushing out all the nooks of 25+ years of sludge and transmission debris.... Oil is clear now after the competition run.
I'll finish the frairing mounts this week, and can then pull the motor and take it down to check it all out properly...
I might need advice from all you guys on this forum to make the internal working as good as they can be...
Here is a picture of how it looked before just before the first startup.... It is alot worst for wear now and will need repainting before May...
