Strada Rack/carrier

Post by JohnChell »

Does anyone know where I can find, or even get made, a rear carrier for a 70's Strada? (1978/79 model).

I listed on the wanted section a few days ago, and I thought I had found a second hand rack from an MRC member, unfortunately the rack got damaged before it could be dispatched.

I could really do with finding one as I use the bike for camping / commuting. Does anyone know of anywhere that may either have a rack in stock, or be able to make a rack to order? Has anyone had one made anywhere that they can recomend?

I have asked NLM in the past, and have sent them another email incase anything has come in recently, but its not something they stock.

Thanks

John

Hi,
I can understand your frustration in searching, they are rare, I found one on eBay from a chap in Kitzbuhel Austria. It took me close to 3 years, I have had it chromed am going to use it on my 1974 31/2 Sport.
Good luck, alternatively you could get one made which is what I was considering.

Cheers

Daniel Schiele has a rack in a parts stash... probably the one you are looking for
I've picked up a few parts from him and saw it lying around on a box...

I was bidding for one on Ebay a few years ago when my computer crashed with about ten seconds to go. Aargh! I missed it by the final bid and it went for around £50. Six months later I bought a 3 1/2 Sport and guess what was bolted on? The very rack that I'd missed on Ebay. Poetic justice? Divine providence? Needless to say, I took it off the Sport and put it on the Strada.

Did you know that the Craven rack and boxes are back in production? I saw them at Stafford last year and ordered a rack then. The Craven stuff would be correct period wise and it isn't madly expensive either. They look the same as the originals but have better locks and the logo stickers are slightly different as the name is now owned by a different business. I think it is currently made/marketed by Draganfly Motorcycles.
