Bike for sale but V5 has the wrong colour

Post by jpcoetzee »

I'm selling a 1976 Sport (here http://www.mooses.co.uk/MoriniForSale.html) but I've noticed a problem with the V5. When the bike was rebuilt it was repsrayed from red to grey/blue but the V5 still says red.

Is this a problem or do I need to update the V5 before I sell the bike?

many thanks

I've bough a bike in the past where the colour on the v5 didn't match, easy to get changed. It wouldn't bother me if I was buying the bike as long as the rest of the details checked out but if you have the time you should the V5 updated. Technically I suspect it's an offence to not keep the details up-to-date.

If you involve VOSA/DVLA (or whatever they're calling themselves at the moment), you could end up delaying your sale by months.

Even if at they take your word about the colour change, you might find the V5 comes back with some new errors, like the wrong model, make, or address!

Leave well alone and just clearly inform any buyer of the discrepancy.

Heh, yes I wish I'd left 'em. That paint isn't enamel though, so aircraft paint stripper or even bead-blasting would shift it. I'm almost tempted to do it, but then I might keep the bike for another year! It really needs to be ridden.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as others have said, as long as the frame numbers etc match and there's an explanation.

I have an early Fireblade (1992). At the last MOT the tester noticed that the 'cc' was down as 899, rather than the true 893. Changed now but DVLA didn't query it. I also havea bike I'm selling now which is not only the wrong colour on the V5 but has the wrong engine number - has done since I got it in 1999 but never noticed until I came to list it on Ebay - bought it off a mate so he obviously forgot to mention he'd changed the engine at some time .... doh!
