Sport Demons

Hello Folks,
I had Sport Demons fitted to my LM3 and also my Morini 3 1/2, they were a booga to fit, the walls are so hard, first time I've ever had to ask a bike shop to fit tyres for me, and they still aren't seated properly on either bike. I've had them up to pressures that you really shouldn't take any tyre to but they still won't sit perfectly on the rim. The bike shop tried the proper lube, WD40, soap, no luck. Left them for a couple of days at high pressure, no luck. Anyone had the same problem?

OK Folks problem solved. I had the wheels powder coated, they didn't mask the inside of the wheels off, that few thousands of an inch , giving my age away here, made all the difference, I used one of those open cell paint removing wheels to take the excess powder coating off and the tyres eventually seated.
Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

That surprises me. I thought the smooth finish of the powder coating would have helped the tyre's bead to move.

Yes, surprised me too, I think the diameter of the inner bead must have been very close to the diameter of the wheel rim. Tolerances on tyres must be very tight. I'm just glad it worked.

The beads on TT (Tube Type) and TL (Tubeless) tyres are a little different and the TL can be harder to fit.

TT tyres are rare these days, you generally use a TL tyre with a tube in it (and de-rate the speed).

I had the same problem with tyres not seating properly on mag wheels. My wheels were powder coated also and I was fitting Avon Roadrunner tyres.
Even with the powder coating removed and almost a mirror finish on the rims they still refused to seat properly. I managed to get a small amount of the proper tyre lube from a car dealers workshop and with about 50psi pressure at last all was OK.
