Carb synchronisation

Hello - I was wondering what people used to adapt carb synchronisers to fit the small holes in the rubber carb to cylinder manifolds. Mine does not have a suitable adapter so I have been managing with old fashioned football pump fittings -just wondered if there was a specific adapter available and where from -thanks -Duncan

I connect my vacuum guages in place of the thin intake manifold balance pipe that runs between the two carbs; they seem purpose mae for this....

Only later bikes have a balance pipe and the vacuum stubs on the carbs to connect them to (different suffix to the carb part number I think). It was added to make the bikes less sensitive to carb balance. I get rid of the pipe and cap the stubs when not balancing. I find the bikes run better that way.
My balancer came with screw in adaptors that fit the rubber manifolds. I'm moving more to gluing a bit of brass tube into the manifold and using a rubber cap over the end.

No there is no balancing pipe on the carbs (79 sport) The manifolds have a thin metal pin (with a teardrop shaped wider end) blocking the balancing hole - the hole is not threaded and the attatchments that come with the carb balancers seem a little large to be screwing them in -ie it would leave a hole too large to be blocked by the pins once they were removed. I have replecement manifolds from NLM and have had to drill the respective holes as theyb don't come with them. Gluing the adapters in permamently with caps on seems a good option that I may try. Carburation is not normally much of a problem but have just put on the NLM stainless downpipes and and Sito's in place of the very rusty original downpipes and Busso's and am having trouble with stuttering in the midrange - beginning to wish I had stuck with the ugly blowing originals as at least perfoemance was better - thanks - Duncan

i have the balance pipe stubs which I use a homemade manometer using ATF.On another bike this has brass inserts in the intake side. These are sealed with small screws and small rubber caps (from the tips of umbrella arms-don't know where you'd get them otherwise)

on the older rubber manifold carbs all you get is two small holes with bungs in them -no balance pipes and it seems nowhere to fit them- I presume at some stage there must have been a specific tool to fit the hole - hence the use of old fiiotball inflators which are ok but not ideal - I will try Pauls soloution of permanently gluying adaptors in to the holes - and then dismantle an umbrellla - thanks - Duncan

Well now have brass fittings and non- umbrella related caps ordered - just wondered if anyone could suggest a suitable fixative for brass to rubber -in a position where you don't want the fixing to fail - thanks - Duncan

Hi, Scottoiler do brass vacuum fittings for intake rubbers, you get one in the oiler fitting kit; its got a shallow mushroom head on the inside and an external nut and locking washer. They will supply individual spares so they might be worth contacting, good luck, Ian
