tacho diode

Hi All,
A question probably for Paul C, but others may know the answer. The wiring diagrams for the 350 6-pole ignition and newer models on the main site show a diode inline with the trigger signal from the coil to the rev counter. I am pretty sure that this doesn’t exist in the old loom I took off the bike (or if it does, I can’t find it), so the obvious question is : Do I need it?
I know I didn’t put one in the loom for my Sport when I made that, and that bike’s tacho works fine (when the stator was rewound anyway). I am right at the point of making the loom for the Strada and if it really should have one (to prevent damage?), then now is the time to get one. So if Yes, what value should the diode be, and in which direction should it go?
Thanks,
George.

The only diode in the loom is one that prevents a faulty ignition switch from applying battery voltage to the ignition boxes and causing them to fail. The tack is driven directly from a terminal on either ignition box.

Thanks for that Paul. As said, I know I didn't put one on the Sport when I made that loom and that works OK. Will simply copy what i did before.
George.
