350K battery?

Hi,

Does anyone have the specs or details of the battery to fit a 350K Sport?

I think the one in the bike had 'died' - a recently aquired bike has been found to have 3 or so cells low on fluid. I have topped them up (distilled water) to between min/max marks, and its on an Oximiser 600 battery charger.

.....but it's been showing charge (orange) for some time (3 days...) - hasn't gone to 'red' as unrecoverable but I am having my doubts that it will recover.

I can't make out the markings on the battery other than 'VARTA'. Measuring with the wife's tape measure (shhhhh) shows the folowing dimensions:

H: 7" (18cm) by L: 7.5" (19cm) by W: 3" (8cm) - dont know if it's a std battery, but it seems to fit correclty and held in place by a "removable braket" on the top.

Does anyone know of the size (dimensions & amp hours etc) of the correct size battery to fit on the '350K', which has the electrick starter under the alternator cover.

I don't know if a solid type (Odyssey type?) worth investigating, if something fitted. Maybe someone else has done this. :?:

I dont know what caused the fluid to drop - hopefully nothing caused by the charging system on the Morini....does anyone have thoughts on what might cause this, if bike related? :(

Regards

Mark

Mines a Varta YB18L-A, 18AH, not a sealed type but very similar dimensions to yours.

I fitted my late 500 Sei with a 13Ah Odyssey which gave almost instant starting. Morini were fitting a 26Ah battery by that stage to try and get enough cranking amps on anything less than a new battery.

The Odyssey was so much smaller I had to make a complete new battery tray.

I'd just chose a battery with the highest available cranking amp rating that will fit.

I have a PC680 odyssey which was OK widthwise but needed a rubber pad in front as its thinner than the standard one.Never any issue with it either. This on a 350K sport.

Thats all useful information, and some ideas if the battery on my recently acquired "K" has 'passed' away.

With the PC680/Odyssey do these need to be hooked up to a charger (like an Optimate) ?

Having looked at the battery, after using WWW and 'PC680' as a search....

...I see it has unusual terminals.

May I ask how you connected the battery up. Was it straight fwd?

Did you have to make/add some ' L ' posts (as above) or such like to fit? Any wiring changes?

Hi no L posts.I seem to have ring terminals on the wires which two allen headed bolts on the battery terminals retain. Bike came like it. Had to wedge a piece of rubber in front ( I glued it to the battery cage) as said as the battery is thinner. Cranks the starter motor/coffee grinder.Never ever needed a charge in 4 years. That's good enough for me.
