Mufflers to suit 75 350 s

Post by Ponch1972 »

Hi Guys

I am looking at getting a new set of mufflers as my originals are rusted out. I heard that you need specific mufflers or the bike runs funny.

I was looking at these on eBay item No: 160798462069. They are a reverse cone cafe racer 26 inches long.

Thoughts and recommendations would greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The "problem" with the 3 1/2 is that the pipe diameter is only 32mm, giving you a poor choice of aftermarket pipes. The ones you were looking at are for 45mm, with reducing spacers for 41 and 38mm. You will need to make even more spacers to make them fit, which to me would leave a very poor looking 'step' between downpipe and silencer. As to function, In my experience I found out years ago that the standard engines ran a lot better with some back pressure rather than none when the welds holding the baffle in a 2:1 pipe I had at the time broke away leaving an open 'megga'. Noisy? You bet. Extra speed? Sadly no, if anything the top speed was a little slower and mid range was dreadful.
If the various NLM offerings aren't for you, you can look at the brezzirandellini website http://www.brezzirandellini.com/ingrand ... tagli_C=78. Have no idea as to their prices or quality, but the 'double seam' silencers pictured look to be a much better copy (identical even?)of the original Lafranconi's than the Brituro one's, especially at the inlet end.
Anyone on here have any comments about Marving? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MARVING-COPPI ... 588982eb55 Still not cheap, when shipping added on, but surely better than what you are considering.

George.

Hi Ponch,

I bought some on eBay mid last year that were made in the UK, they are a Busso twin seamed silencers. They are the best type of muffler or ones made by Lanfranconi.

Cheers

I suggest you ask Trinder if these are still available/suitable.

By the way Ponch, are you related to Chips1953 over on the Corsaro forum? You seem to have some TV connection there 8)

I reckon you want to PM Ponch and see if he'll take this bargain. Sadly, I'm in NZ where very little sent from the UK is a bargain.
