Headlight Bulbs

I know I should have paid more attention in physics lessons but...

My Strada has a QH headlight bulb, 35/35w, and the Sport has a Xenon (is this also QH?) 60/55w. Is there any reason why I can't uprate the Strada one to the same as the Sport's? The bulbs are identical in terms of fittings and profile.

And while I'm here, is there a standard profile for masking the headlight glass when riding on the continent?

Thanks for any help, Mark.

Depends on the output from your alternator. My early 100w job can't balance the load with a 60/55w headliamp bulb. As to masking, my Cibie unit on the Morini is 'vertical dip' anyway so I don't bother. On the Shiver I ought to tape over the 'flick up' bit on the left, but I forgot last May.

When coming back on 'Le Shuttle' I never see continentals masking their car headlamps as I remove my dutifully applied 'beam benders'.

In my experience of going to France 5 times a year for the last 8 years the police presence is very much lower profile than in the UK. French police, however, have NO sense of humour and will rarely let you off with a warning. They are very keen to see all your paperwork if stopped (including routine checks) for any reason though.

if your alternator can't cope with the extra current there are 35/35W halogen bulbs available with Ba20 fitting

already a large improvement!

or switch your rear lights, indicators, dash lights etc. for LED to save current and pop in the 55/60W
