Hi all, well I have finally been given a registration number for my 82 Strada rebuild, so armed with a shiny new number plate it was down to the garage for my first ride (3 laps of Regent's Park, near enough to push it back!).

Overall not bad, carbs need setting up, it's running rather rich which I guess is better for a first ride than lean. Forks feel a touch sticky, could just be new seals. Brakes good etc.

But, and there's always a but, whilst the clutch works fine, reasonably progressive, it makes a lot of noise when pulled in in neutral, an almost grating sound. My sport certainly isn't this loud.

Any suggestions? Is it a case of 'they do that' or something else?

I have just put a new clutch in my Sport so may swap them over to see if that makes any difference.

It just doesn't sit comfortably with my mechanical sympathy!

I've noticed my clutch has started to become a little noisy when pulling in the lever. I've checked the adjustments at each end (both spot on) and it seems to have lessened but not completely. I didn't notice when it began and I don't think it's ever done that before.

So yes, "do they all do that?" or what may this be symptomatic of? What is the experience of other members? BTW the plates are Surflex (is that OEM?) and I'm up to 33,000kms.

Mine also makes a bit of a noise, certainly aware that the clutch is pulled in when stopped, but not enough to worry about (yet....). Be nice if someone has a silent solution!

Wear earplugs?

You can hear a light rattle on mine ticking over with clutch in sounds like the plates rattling
in the drum but nothing like a Ducati dry clutch happy enough with it.

Buy a 125 or 250, they have wet clutches.

most dry clutches are fairly noisey, ducatis make the morinis sound whisper quiet, the bush on large primary gear was well worn out on mine so the whole thing was rocking on the shaft, worth a check while the covers off.

Yeah, I've put that to bed now. Readjustment has made a difference and it's only a slight rotational noise when pulled in. I can't hear it now when I'm going therefore it can't be happening.

I think mine is down to a warn clutch centre (60k km) letting the plates rattle more than on my sport which had a new centre 4k miles ago.
