Both my forks were leaking as a result of pitted sliders, would it be cheaper to source new sliders or get them rechromed-and if so, any recommendations?


Can someone confirm they are 35mm- I'd go look myself but I'm not near the bike at the moment.

I've had stanchions re-chromed in the past. Philpot Hard Chrome are just down the road from me and will do a cash deal for over ther counter jobs. I paid £100 the last time I had a pair done and I know the cost has gone up. I wasn't impressed by the finish last time either.

Original Marzocchi stanchions are a pretty low grade of steel and will become bent slightly over time, even if they haven't had any accident damage. Paioli Tarozzi stanchions are a Chrome/Molly alloy and much more resitant to taking a 'set'. They're something like £175 inc Vat from Disco Volante.

I had my forks hard chromed by 'Hard Chrome Plating & Grinding' in Ollerton, back in 1989 for the princely sum of £57.50, which included the return post. They've done about 40k since (not so much of late) and are still serviceable. It's an investment!
