Well following on from my rev counter post, I now have issues with the dial on the other side!!!
I MOT'd the bike today and rode a good 40miles around this afternoon to run the engine in, must say I'm pleased with how she goes and handles....
Anyway the speedo seems to be showing around double actual speed and maybe abit more....
Which makes me wonder if the speedo or drive on the front wheel is the wrong ratio? Both are items that were fitted on the bike when I bought it as a project, and the speedo has the Morini face...... so was there a model with a different ratio drive?
Speedo
Re: Speedo
Well I guess the 1st thing to ask if it's not too stupid, would be is it a KPH clock? I do not know about the speedo drive spec but I did get a converter to allow mine to run at MPH from NLM. Is it the clocks that vary or do the speedo drives have to match?

Re: Speedo
Looking at your pics your clocks are standard for the year and of of course this is a UK bike without the need for a converter.
It is probably more the case of age. From the condition of the bike before restoration it had obviously had been stood for sometime with the clocks exposed to the elements. I have a 77 Strada splendid in every regard however both the rev counter and the speedo have minds of their own. It didn't help of course when the bike was knocked over in the local supermarket car park but nonetheless the clocks need some work if they are to be reasonably accurate.
I haven't bothered up to now but at some point I will. There are a few specialists who rebuild clocks and NLM will no doubt recommend one to you.
Regards
Paul

Re: Speedo
The speedo on my bike is erratic which i put down to wear in the front wheel hub drive, i would advise to check yours out before spending money on the speedometer itself.
Re: Speedo
Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look at the speedo drive as I need to take the front wheel out now to replace a fiber washer on one of the fork damper retaining bolts anyway.
The speedo is aesthetically perfect, the face is clear and not faded in anyway so I dont think the bike has been stood outside, however it was crashed so perhaps it's had one knock too many!
Mine is also erratic so it sounds like I might have a couple of separate issues!
Rev counter decided that it didn’t want to work today, but did last night! So I’ll get the tank off and get cleaning connections for a start…..
And a positive note….. the bike is great fun!

Fibre washer? I've only seen Aluminium.atreyu wrote:I need to take the front wheel out now to replace a fiber washer on one of the fork damper retaining bolts anyway.
I fit a Doughty washer (Stat-O-Seal) which is much more reliable.

When I got my 31/2 the Speedo jittered all over the place - the cure was simple, but it took me 3 months to work it out - doh! The squared end of the inner drive cable had rounded off sufficiently (at the Speedo head) to most probably slip every 3rd/4th(?) turn. New cable from NLM gave me a super smooth needle - & reasonably accurate compared with SatNav. Mind you I did have to resort to some silver kitchen foil to ensure a tight fit at the head end - no unsavory comments please
