550 Valentini Mystery

Post by mgill »

Earlier this year I became the proud owner of a long neglected and broken 550 Valentini race bike.
Most of which can be seen here http://www.seismo.com/personal/morini/pile/pile.html

Having broken my collar bone last week, I've finally got time (off work) to disassemble this motor.
Some one has put a lot of time and effort into this egg, and with the help of the members, I'd like to
solve some of the mystery behind the build.
First the basics....

350 bottom end *04035*
478 crank lightened and polished
478 barrels and heads
74mm Guzzi pistons (550cc)

**The piston skirts have been knurled and reliefs added.
Looks as thought the pistons were banging around pretty good so will need to be replaced with (?)

**The valves are double sprung with an inner and outer spring, both look to be lighter guage than stock (?)

** The output shaft is different, the sprocket is splined . Is this Morini?

Haven't split the cases yet.... the rotor is stuck to the crank and the clutch hub doesn't want to come off.

This may turn into a "build thread" eventually, once I figure how to engineer the thing back together.

No you haven't missed anything...
Just on the back burner for now.
It's a 478 bottom end w/5 speed tranny and
L5 cam, the pistons and barrels are garbage
So I will be seeking suitable replacements when the time comes...
The valentini kit is in good shape
