It leaks - not much, just an annoying little bit. Been leaking for a number of years which makes me wonder why it isn't empty.... Presumably by now it is also less effective than it was.

I gather repair seems impossible (correct me otherwise please) and new ones are thin on the ground. Would a gas strut of appropriate size be OK - they come in all sorts of sizes and strengths and are reasonably cheap (£20-30). SGS in Derby seem to offer almost every permutation known to man for example.

If so, any idea on the number of Newtons resistance - still need to be able to steer a little bit!

I've seen the same steering dampers being sold by M&P but that was 2-3 years ago,maybe worth taking a look?

Found the steering damper that I'd identified a few years ago on a Busters web site being the same company as M&P,it's listed as a Kawasaki style steering damper,no price listed for it though

That just looks like a "classic" type universal one? I've seen them cheaper. I had one on my race Ducati and took it off.... I cant see any need at all for one on a road bike? Apart from to look original?

Had one on my 78 500 which looked the same as the one on e-bay,took it of as it was leaking and dripping on to the front pipe and staining it,really never needed one in the first place?

Thanks for finding those Simon - certainly look the part . WIll check dimensions in the morning with the seller. Price is fine as well.

Are gas struts equal damping both ways? For the money you can pick up these classic style dampers (like the ebay one) which are the real deal.... I'd stick with a proper steering damper, the one on the Guzzi site isnt exactly dear either. I certainly wont be putting one on my Morini though, I think it will ruin the experience!

I think you will find the gas strut is not a damper, it uses compressed gas as a spring, OK for supporting the weight of your car boot or bonnet??

I have a Morini 500 s

Just took it out for the first ride after winter storage.
Before winter storage I got the rear dampers and the front tubes replaced

On the first ride it start woobbling a medium speed, large curve. It was scary

I was thinking on ajustable problem in front tubes after resample ?
Steering damper dried out during winter time

Anyone with some input to how to fix it ?

Unless you're pushing very hard on track, there should be no need for a steeing damper. If you've got a wobble, then something is wrong. Perhaps you've got head bearings way out of adjustment, or missaliged or loose forks.

I never had a damper on the Morini but I have had them on 2 BMW's and removed them on the basis that there must be something wrong if you needed one, such as steering head bearings/dodgy shocks or underinflated tyres. but then again a Morini doesn't have a bolt on subframe to contend with.
And yes indeed the beemers have had all of these issues.
