My clutch has been dragging badly on my 3 1/2 especially when hot. Since I have not yet been inside (got the bike last August), I ordered everything from NLM that they thought I would need for an overhaul. I am clear on the plates getting warped - replacing the entire clutch pack anyway - but I am confused about the spacers they sent. I can't find any mention of spacers in the Morini parts book or service manual. Even Classic Bike's feature this month mentions the spacers as a fix for a dragging clutch - yet they don't say where the spacers go and how you determine if you need them! So, where do these shims go and how do I figure out if I need them?
Thanks in advance,

Clutch Questions.
Re: Clutch Questions.
Hi-look at http://www.morini-riders-club.com/thebi ... lutch.html
I renewed my plates, renewed the oil seals, shimmed the clutch and removed any burrs from the clutch drum and it completely works. There is supposed to be a slightly dished metal plate which needs to go in first, some sources suggest it is the final (outermost)metal plate. Mind the clutch springs are done up but not too tightly. The whole lot should not "wobble" when viewed with the motor running.

Thanks! That's the info I was looking for. I will go attack the problem now. Hope to be on a ride soon.

Re: Clutch Questions.
Although hardly a help for your question but from racing experiences on my Ducati with a dry clutch conversion, its absolutely essential that the pressure plate lifts cleanly, any wobble and it will become snatchy.
Re: Clutch Questions.
Got into the clutch this morning. Looks like nobody has been in there in a while. The plates were caked in muck - most likely a seal leaking behind the basket. I cleaned up the basket and center, pulled the center, replaced the plastic washer and re-shimmed the clutch. Put all new plates in and new springs. Works great! Now I need to take it for a proper ride out to the forest. Will let you know how it goes.

Re: Clutch Questions.
Checked the outer pressure plate while running. It looks true. All springs are new and tightened down the same amount as best as I can tell. Not very loud when I pull in the clutch, so I assume it is correct.atreyu wrote:Although hardly a help for your question but from racing experiences on my Ducati with a dry clutch conversion, its absolutely essential that the pressure plate lifts cleanly, any wobble and it will become snatchy.
