Frame differences

Another question for you all!

I've picked up another frame for my Sport as the original is too badly bent on the front downtubes and top tube, The frame I've picked up is perfect.

There are a couple of minor differences,

A strip across the frame is present on the red frame, aswell as the lug/tab coming downwards. Also the battery carrier is different, the red frame has a straight strip across, the black frame has this strip at a inclined angle, aswell as the tray being part of it.

The ignition bracket on the red frame is welded to the frame, where as the black frame I had a separate bracket in my box of bits.

Both frames should be Sports's, the black one is the original off my bike, both have a A/3 frame suffix, the red frame is a couple of thousand later on the serial number though. Are the various brackets year related?

Hi,

It'll just be that the later frame is from an electric start model. On these they have a bigger battery you pushed in from the left, rather than dopped in from the top (on on your earlier frame).

Cheers

Pete

Thanks Pete, Any idea on the ignition switch mounting bracket? Looking on google images I get the impression it should be there anyway? As on my other thread I found a bolt on ignition bracket in my box of "bits" but now I think it's off a different Morini and maybe not a 3 1/2?
I've now cut up the black frame  but atleast the bike is saved thanks to the donor frame!! I should have walked away from the bike but I HAD to have it!

Hi atreyu

The bike I have got has the same frame as your red one, so now I am confused as I thought I had the non - electric start model, my ignition swich ( not that I have one, lol ) is also in the same place on the frame as your red one.

Do you still have any bits of the cut -up one left ?, I ask because on the one I have the footpeg mounting arm is badly bent, and has a small kink in it, I was just going to straighten this out as best as I could , but if you still have that part of the frame, I could just weld it in...... It's the righthand side (as if you were riding it) that is bent.
