new disc and pads

Post by dunk 1 »

Hi have just fitted new nlm disc and recommended pads and it's time to get an MOT - off road over winter while I did various jobs. Problem is I am not happy with the stopping at the moment - keep bleeding brakes and cleaning discs/pads but still doesn't seem right - is this a problem others have had with this item or am I missing something - Duncan

Could you be a little more specific?

Single front or twin? How hot do they get equal or not.My rear disc picked up on new pads so I went back to the old but not down-to-the-metal ones. But it scored.

The only problem I've had with new NLM disc and pads is that the Newfren pads are very soft and would pick up road dirt and grit when riding in the wet. This would then score the new disc.

Other than that, stopping power was fine.

Why do you keep bleeding the brakes, does something lead you to suspect that there is air in the system?

no - it was just something to try - the brake lever has always seemed a litle soft but with the old disc (badly scored ) it worked fine - now it doesn't seem so prompt in stopping. This could however be perception in some part as i have not ridden the bike for several months - waiting for re- chromed parts to arrive and then bad weather. Next dry day I'll take it for the Mot and see how it feels on the ride there ( taking it slowly of course) - really I was just wondering if new discs had a beddding in period as I have not replaced one before - duncan
