Perfect timing..

Post by Steve Brown »

Nothing to do with ignition or valves. I just thought I'd slip a pair of new main bearings into my Sport ready for Cadwell. They were pretty slack and noisy too. What could go wrong :?: Maybe need some new shells, they weren't knocking so didn't expect anything worse.
Sod's Law says; If it can go wrong, it will-right before Cadwell. So I checked the crankpin with my old worn never re-calibrated micrometer (good enough for comparative measurements etc) and the pin is about 0.005" oval, the shells have been grinding some crap into themselves and even a bodger like me doesn't fancy putting them back like that.
Bugger.
So off to SEP today for some experts to get grinding and making good.
My question to the forum is; Will the Sport make it to Cadwell? Should I have really sold that spare engine to MarkB?
Anyone want to make a bet?
And if I do get it there, should I really be hammering the new big ends around?
Who will buy me the first consolation drink? 8)

Oh well, gives me something to do, I suppose............. best put some oil in the Matchless then.

Steve

Always have a spare engine, you never know when you'll need it!

I'm in a similar position with the Strada: the hole in the frame's now had some expert attention but what with work and holidays, I'm not going to get the bike through the MOT in time for Cadwell. Most frustrating, so I'll have to take my 'other' Italian bike... Do they have a 'wimp on a big bike' group?

Ok John, you're right on both counts. The Scott seems to be holding fluids reasonably well now, so you never know.
I added it to my entry just in case.........
Progress is being made on the 350, nt sure if it'll be run in though :?

Yeah Steve, bring the Scott :)

In my experience thrashing a Morini around Cadwell doesn't do any more harm to new bearings than thrashing it around Southern England. I think I've done it twice to no ill effects (actually now I type that I can see the connection)

Hi Steve,
It sounds as if you should bring the Morini and the Scott just to be popular??
See you

I did offer a friend a ride on the Scott, must check if he entered?
