Red Paint?

Post by Ballacraine »

Simple question really....

What is the official name / best match for the red paint used on a 1977 3.5 Sport, please?

TIA

A recent article in classic bike was about painting tanks at home using aerosols, the tank they used was a morini sport (late 70's) with the black blocking. they used BMW red as a good match that is easily available from Halfords etc. They also quoted RS bikepaint as being able to match up to 17000 colours for bikes, they are on 01226 203608 / www.motorbikepaint.co.uk.

The above link from this site does not work, if you type it in to your search engine it will take you straight there.

I am currently having a go at my side panels to see what results I get with aerosols.

Regards

Hells bells

I was thinking of using them for some paint for my triumph, dont think I will bother now, my local motor factors can scan a good bit of surviving paint and give me there closest match at around £12 for 500ml,

I have just finished my side panels in BMW red and used two 375ml tins at £4.99, they have come out quite well, the tank is next

If you are happy with the results, perhaps post a couple of pics?

I'll try to do the same......I have quite a bit to do painting-wise.

When I get the opportunity to take it all down to my spraypainting mate!

Here's food for thought... years ago [25 or so], when it came to respraying the tank of my '76 Strada my mate's dad used genuine Royal Mail post box red paint. Absolutely fantastic colour and quality [the depth of shine was phenominal] :D

A bit late for the OP, but may be useful for others.

£19:99 per 0.5 litre. They appear to list 4 codes for Morini red.

Simon which one do you think for the 3 disk 350 from 82 as per our model, red or red coral?
My frame is Hammerite red I think.Identical in any case. Lucky as I had a tin left from restoring my Suffolk lawnmower (in the bike interregnum days, how sad is that)

When I get around to spraying mine I think I will go for the "(MOR 3A) RED '82" as this says from 1982. Sounds about right year wise. My tank and tail unit don't look an exact match to me anyway so I guess someone has already resprayed the tank at some stage.

Simon-Any update on that respray colour yet? I am going to attack mine soon and will also investigate the two pinstripes if I get keen.
