I bought some pattern airbox to carb rubbers off nlm they fit fine on the carbs but the fitting to the airbox is very loose and they fall out - I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and if they have a solution.

built the tops up with tape and they now seem fine - however i do have another question. at the moment due to misplacing a top hat rubber i am running the bike without side panels and am noticing fumes coming from the engine breather is this normal and just hidden or is it a symptom of something worse than my constant bike paranoia. The bike sounds fine and is running well now the new rubbers fit.

Hello Duncan,
I also bought pattern card to airbox rubbers, as my 3 1/2 camme with K&N type filters and no aorbox, and had a "happy" two days wrestling with them to get them to fit. As you say the pattren rubbers fit the carbs o.k., but they are too small for the airbox. I also had trouble with them folding when fitted thus decreasing the intake diameter.
I ended up buying two small plastic drainpipe sections from B&Q. The ones I bought have a section which increases slightly in diameter. Cut out this section so it leaves you with a piece appriox 1 1/4" long and with the increase in diameter. Hold the end of the card rubber inside the airbox hole, lubricate with WD40 or similar and then push in the drainpipe section. This then holds the rubber nicely into the airbox lower section and leaves a stub below onto which you can use a jubilee clip in thre normal way. Diameter is only maginally decreased.
I have also now bought a used original pair of intake rubbers and these have a small offset which the pattren ones dont. I have yet to try them!
Hope this is of soem help. Paul
