Hi AJ, if you look on this site under Old Bikes, the model list gives engine numbers. It would suggest that you've got a 350 Sport engine from an early model with wire wheels and drum brakes. Does it have an 'S' stamped at the bottom of one of the barrels? This would confirm it's a Sport.

One of the other Morini Clubs, either the German or Dutch, has a table which ties in engine numbers to year of manufacture.

Cheers, Mark.

Frame numbers in the 5000 range are usually Sports and the engine number was usually a copy of the frame number.

The presence of the 'S' on the cases indicates a Sport, but is by no means a guarantee.

The 'ears' of the piston crowns are taller, which only requires taking a head off to check. There should also be an 'S' stamped in the middle of the camshaft and it's just about possible to see it without splitting the cases with one barrel off and a dental mirror.

thanks for the replies: I'll have a look at the other websites later - I bought the engine and a frame a couple of years back and they were sold as a "strada" but the frame is definitely from '81 and has a different number from the engine. I had a closer look this evening and there's a "w" stamped beside the "moto morini" on the front n/s of the engine casing - no sign of an "s" anywhere but I haven't got through all the grime yet!! cheers

The 'S' would be stamped on the right hand side of the crankcases, just below the front barrel.
