No Rear light

As always what was on the face of it a blown bulb has developed into a puzzle. On investigation the bulb was fine and no obvious signs as to what the problem was. All wiring looks ok however the rear brake light only works when the lights are off. The bike, a 77 Strada was purchased in May from NLM so I must assume that to pass its MOT the rear light must have worked. Summer, light nights and all that I have not had to put the lights to the test. Before I trouble NLM with the problem has any one had a similar problem? Any ideas would be useful if only to save me a trip over to NLM.

Hi,

First check is to make sure the brake light and rear light are not wired to the same filament on the bulb, could explain the issue. However it is more likely to be an earthing problem on the rear light somewhere, I have not had it on a Morini but have seen it on vehicles in front of me where the brake light will cause the rear light to go out. Best to check connections via multimeter or dismantling, cleaning and re-assembling. If all else fails run a replacement wire to test theory.
