It’s very common on the old Porsche's I work on for the brake soft lines to swell and close off. The solution isn’t stainless steel lines but just to replace the old rubber lines. I don’t know if the bikes have the same issue but in general, rubber gas and brake lines deteriorate with age. Rule of thumb is, if you can’t remember when they were last done, it’s time to do them. Replacement is usually pretty cheap and easy.

Aye Mepstein, thank you for the wee tip, I will check them whilst I have the calipers off the bike to give them a clean.
