clunck, click, every trip!

Post by paul mcgonigal »

Hello all!
Have got my K1sport on the road, and using it daily. Have noticed cluncking noise when changing up the box, usually from 1st into 2nd and sometimes 3rd. It usually happens when the engine is hot, must admit i've been thrashing it a bit! If I keep the revs down and the gear changes slower, its a bit more smoother. Doesn't seem to happen when going down the box as much, i have had a look inside the clutch and the plates seem a bit worn and the clutch outer drum is rocking a bit, from side to side. The clutch centre has a bit of end float on it, but it sounds fairly quite when in operation. I don't want to bore everybody with clutch talk as there is a lot on the forum already, just wondering if this could be the cause of the clunkiness. Apart from that the bike is flying, all I have to do now is learn to ride it! :D So if there is anyone out there who has dealt with the same thing feel free to reply.
Thanks again,
Paul

So, it's just making a noise? Other than the noise, it engages all the gears up and down the box?

thanks for looking in on this one, just a little unsure on whats the norm having just got the bike on the road its all new to me, it goes in and out of all the gears no probs just the odd clunk going up the box its the side to side play in the outer clutch drum, i think wobble is a better way to describe it. that bothers me, would appreciate your views on that, things have improved since i cleaned up the clutch plates . thanks paul.

My Morini shifts like my BMW, you need to take your time with it, but to be honest I've never noticed a clunk.

The "outer drum" or clutch basket is bolted to the primary gear on the main shaft, that runs on a bushing (14.04.12)
With the inner hub attatched the outer drum should not wobble.

hi mcgill, thanks for the info, only time will tell, if gets worse will propably replace bush and do clutch overhaul as it looks like its never been done, really impressed with performance and really sticks to the road, just have to make it stop the front calliper is still sticking and back shoes worn to the rivets but still handles like a dream its all weird and wonderfull stuff. thanks paul.
