Starting Problems Ideas needed??

Post by Brett »

Hi,

I have recently installed the new NLM Pickup and Transducer system along with new sparkplugs.

I have also just installed an original 6 spade ignition switch and wiring, my 74 3 1/2 Sport had a 5 spade ignition switch, I have run the wires as below:

The original wires on the 6 Spade are:

Green - To the Transducer (Green 5 Spade)
Blue - To the Frame Earth (Blue 5 Spade)
Red - To the Battery Positive (Red 5 Spade)
Brown - To the Regulator/Fuel Electra tap (Brown 5 Spade)
Yellow - To the Dash Lights (Grey 5 Spade)
Yellow/Black - To the Head/Tail Lights (Nil 5 Spade wire) place on the red terminal that runs to the battery positive.

I seem to have a problem, no joy in starting, I have no spark at the plugs.....trying to think what maybe the problem.....any ideas???

When I turn the key on to the third position both lights on the dash come on as per usual, the fuel pump activates, so all as per norm but no spark at either plugs or at the leads, (I disconnected the sparkplug caps).

There is no power from the switch to the transducers via the green wire which I believe is correct as the power comes from the stator coil.

I have checked the wiring as per NLM instructions and physically all connections appear correct, so I am at a bit of a loss as to why no spark at all, I don't even feel any thing holding the cable.

If the stator coil was cactus I wouldn't have been able to start previously when it had the Lucas AB11 system installed....and I tested it with the meter prior and it was throwing good ohms.

So I am confused, I am missing something....any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi,

Further to my above message, I looked at the mounting of the transducer/coils and I had rubber mounted them so I connected metal bracket directly to the frame as the negative wires are on the metal bracket....then I had spark at the plug leads....thinking great I then put the tank back on and then we were back to square one no spark....I have since removed the tank and have looked at the wires again and can't see the reason.

It has to be something simple....any thoughts are welcome.

Cheers
