NLM Transducers and pick up
NLM Transducers and pick up
Hi All,
Has any one fitted NLMs new pick up and transducers with coils? I have just bought them but they neglected to give me the fitting instructions (wiring diagram) for the transducers and coils, does anybody happen to have some instructions?

Re: NLM Transducers and pick up
Hi Simon,
yes, I recently fitted the transducers/coils and am pleased with them. Can't help with the pick-up though.
There is some logic to the wiring although the instructions I received were incorrectly printed. My corrections are noted. Also, depending on your bike's year you may have some wires left over that you don't need.
I ended up phoning NLM who put me through to the workshop and a minute's conversation later I was sorted.
If you can't read my greasy writing I can re-type my notes in another post for you.
Cheers,
Dom
PS Are there many good places to ride in HK? Sounds fascinating.

Hi Dom,
Thank you for the reply. Is it possible for you to e-mail me(simon@simonsworkshop.com) a copy of the fitting instructions, it is to small to read. The pick up fitting is easy.
Hong Kong is a small place to ride but once you are out of the city it very good, and we have a good group of western guy to ride with.

Re: NLM Transducers and pick up
Hi Simon, I have recently considered purchasing the pickup were the benefits noticeable ? I believe it allows you to set the timing accurately for both cylinders is that correct ?
Re: NLM Transducers and pick up
I've got a new style pickup somewhere ready to fit, but for the moment it has disappeared in to the black hole that is the bike parts shed. It does allow individual timing of the cylinders, but the advance curve is also meant to be better anyway. The new style transducers used with an OEM red pickup transformed my bike on their own (though as both original ones were U/S that's not surprising). It has just had a stator rewind also though, which I would always advise as the starting point for ignition rejuvenation unless it really is 'known good'.GeoffJH wrote:Hi Simon, I have recently considered purchasing the pickup were the benefits noticeable ? For 250 fanciers, it is possible to mount the coils and the control box on a 2C frame with a bit of ingenuity, a hand made extra alloy mounting plate for the coil unit and in my case for the 'black box' extra foam rubber isolation and big zip ties. The 375 motor with L5 cam and 28mm carbs plus 2-1 exhaust is sounding very crisp. Once it is back on the road I will experiment with the new pickup - if I can find it

Re: NLM Transducers and pick up
My 250 had an air temperature related mid-range missifre problem that I eventually traced to one of the ignition boxes. I built my own copy of the circuit inside the stock boxes and used a pair of coils from BTH Magnetos which are the same type as NLM use. The convenient place to mount them on the 250 was on a couple of L shaped brackets on top of the air box.

Re: NLM Transducers and pick up
Ah, no air box on mine, though I hope to rig up K&N type pods on rubber intake elbows. I wanted to keep the ignition bits fairly readily accessible in case of needing to tinker (swap cylinders for diagnostics etc.). I managed to fit it all in behind the RH side cover and still retain the tin pot tool box. Long HT leads, but then so were the originals. I've ven kept them the same length (with a lot of slack in the rear naturally) to aid swapping sparks and to keep the 'dwell' synchronised with the registered plug positionsEVguru wrote:My 250 had an air temperature related mid-range missifre problem that I eventually traced to one of the ignition boxes. Hi Dom,
What did it cost for the Transducer kit?
Any chance you could message me the page you attached as it is too small to copy or read.
Thanks
Brett

Re: NLM Transducers and pick up
Hi Brett,
the cost was somewhere around 130 quid but excluding VAT and including postage here to NZ. In any case, great value to make that part of the loom behave.
PM me your email address and I'll send you the PDF of the instructions.
Cheers,
Dom
