Clutch basket and seals parts?

Post by thormagnus »

Hi everyone, if you've read the other posts I'm currently working with my mechanic friend to reubuild my dad's old '75 Morini S...well...he's doing the work. ;)

Right now we're really having a hard time locating a replacement clutch basket and seals. Looking all over the place. Ebay, UK Ebay other part suppliers here locally that we've had good luck from, still nothing. Waiting to hear if Herman from Herdan has found anything yet as all indicators are he's the guy in the US. Has anyone had any luck finding these particular parts? I'm having trouble with the NLM site. Are there any tips on how to contact these guys?

Any help is much appreciated.

Too long; didn't read: Looking for a new clutch basket and accompanying seals.

Thank you!

The seals are all standard metric and you should have no trouble getting them from a bearing or industrial supply house.

If the only thing wrong with the clutch basket is corrosion of the steel surface on which seal runs, then It may be possible to repair or replace it. For example you can get shaft repair sleeves to fit over the worn area to create a new surface for the seal to run on.

NLM do answer emails, but only once a day, so it can take them a little time to reply.

Thanks you guys. I sent off an email to NLM. Hopefully they respond to those too. If possible I'd like to avoid an international call. Me being cheap, but I gotta try first right?

Also seems like Herdan has some of the pieces, but not everything we need. And Jon was able to to salvage as much as possble, thanks for the tip EVguru!

I'll continue to keep everyone posted as this thing progresses.

Cheers!

Good news stateside folk. Heard from Stuart this morning via email. Very friendly and helpful. So happy to finally reach them. I'll post more updates as things come together once the new parts are imported.

Cheers!

Thormagnus;

Glad to hear you're keeping the Morini - welcome to the band!

Stuart and Rob (on the spares side) at NLM seem to have access to a huge range of spares, and are updating stuff to keep the air cooled V on the road. It's really good that you've made contact, but don't neglect Herdan, they'll hopefully be able to sort you out between them.

There are also suppliers in mainland Europe (as we British call the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France amongst others...) and those countries also have Morini Clubs with informative websites - although not as good as ours perhaps!

Good luck with the rebuild; this is a riders club which says something about the bikes; once they're running well they are incrediable fun to use ~ so Good Riding for the future, 8)

I've heard that the best way to contact Hermy is by phoning late at night.
