Quick Clutch Question

Post by GeoffJH »

Having stripped and cleaned the clutch plates and replaced the thrust washer I have a question about the retaining nut washer. The washer has the four pins that locate OK, do I need to bend the washer to sit against one of the nut flats once its been torque up ?

My old Harglo service manual says during disassembly "...knock back the overturned locking washer .." before undoing the clutch centre nut and then "Always use new lockwasher on re-assembly and recheck sealed nut". The engine strip link from the NLM site also says "first knock down the locking tab washer" (on page 7 here http://www.northleicestermotorcycles.co ... 0strip.pdf. So looks like it should certainly be bent up.
