Reserve Tap

Post by Bald Monkey »

Hi All,

I am now the new owner of a 3 1/2 Sport (Italian Import) 1979. I only got the bike 2 days ago and while looking over it I noticed a reserve tap on the right hand side. Having only owned and restored Jap bikes in the past I am not too sure how to operate this tap as there are no markings on it. It also leaking, I assume its just going to be an O ring but if anyone could give me a heads up on this it would be appreciated.

The reserve tap is either on, or off. The idea is to run on the main (electric) tap, then switch on reserve (lever pointing down).

The electric taps aren't all that reliable. The diaphrams harden over the years and the main tap won't always flow enough fuel, so you end up running on reserve at sutained speed anyway.

Many people put on a pair of modern manual taps. Yamaha Majesty 250 taps fit and are nice quality. I've bought them for £10 each of ebay.
