Some time ago I had my K2/sport on here for sale ( about a year ago) - anyhow it did not sell and sat at the back of the garage - I am off work at the moment after ankle surgery and started thinking about the K2

I have just been into the gargae, put a gallon of fuel in and she started second kick! and settled down to a nice 1000RPM tickover !- This has now renewed my enthusiasm for all things Morini and I am now glad she did not sell! - turned out right in the end!

She is looking a bit tatty but is all ready to go - what would you guys do - put her back on the road and then do a cosmetic rebuid in the winter or take her apart now?

Ride her now.
Morini's were never meant to be in bits
There will be plenty of time later to tidy the bike.
There are too many Morini's off the road.

Thats what I am tempted to do - the only pressing job is the wheels as these are corroding all over ( I am worried this could effect the structural integrity) - I think that I will get the wheels powder coated and then MoT

Any suggestions as to how you get the spedo drive gear off the front wheel ( in one piece?)

Longer term it needs:

Forks re chromed/new stanctions

Non rusty down pipes/silencers

Tank respray and some odds & sods on various brakets etc

And a good run around the lanes!

There was never any reason why it would ever be removed (other than repaintin/coating) and it's not designed to be. I'd contact whoever is going to do the coating and talk to them about masking.

I've had stanchions done by Philpot Hard Chrome (they're just down the road), but the finish is not as good as I'd like. New stanchions are about £175 a pair from Disco Volante.

Theres quite a good powder coaters locally ( Plymouth) - I have used them for bike frames before - will give them a call re masking.

NLM have told me that there are 2 lenghts of fork stanction - will have to take mine apart and measure up - are the ones mentioned any good or am I better going to NLM?

I might even keep a log and post on here if anyones interested?

I think it's only early Stradas (with Paioli forks) that have a different length (along with different rears). New stanchions will be Paioli Tarozzi from either source, cheaper from Disco Volante (last time I checked), but in stock at NLM.

No I havent had the pleasure of meeting anyone else with a Morini in the locality - I occasionaly see a mid 80's sport dressed as a mid 70's one in the dockyard ( where I work) but have not left a note - would be more than happy to make contact for a chat

Will be getting the wheels/tyres off this weekend and up to the powder coaters - the problem is that these things tend to accelerate! I know I will put the wheels back on and the rest will look even worse!
