Front Indicators

Post by jones3321 »

Hi all,

When I bought my bike, a '76 Sport, it came with an ugly handlebar fairing so I have no clear idea of how the original CEV indicators were attached. Does anyone have a picture they could share? Then does anyone offer original or replica indicators, including the mounting arms?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

It was a bit variable on the earliest bikes as they were not standard fitment, and positioning of the bracket for the rears in particular can be a bit hit and miss.

I believe my ‘75 were factory fitted as the bike has never been repainted and the brackets look original.

Front stems just go straight through the headlamp in place of its mounting bolts.

Repros of the early, rounded back style CEV indicators are available, which I think are correct for a ‘76. They are quite fragile as the mounting screw of done up too tight or if the indicator takes a whack tends to crack the housing. Some sort of metal insert or strengthening plate/internal rubber mount could be made up and would be an excellent product.

These are the repros bought in the past:

Stems shouldn’t be too hard to find or to turn on a lathe.

My front stems measure 14mm OD, 56mm between headlamp bracket and indicator body (ie the stem is 56mm plus thread lengths whatever they are), and at one end is milled a flat along 5.5mm length of the stem, and the thickness between the flats is 9.5mm.

The rears are the same but the stems are 52mm plus threads

Just to add my $0.02 worth - the indicators have provision for an earth wire - I highly recommend utilizing this

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if the indicators were mounted on the main attachment for the headlamp. Now I know what I am looking for .

All the best, Alastair

Hi,
Should you choose to buy 'standard' indicator stems from Mdina, make sure that you ask for the ones with 8mm thread at one end and 10mm thread at the other, as the headlamp mount should be 8mm.
