3 1/2 frame head bearing

Post by Carts »

Hi all

Just stripping bike down to get frame power coated / painted.

Before I start hitting thing to hard with a hammer, do the seats that the bearing sit in come off the frame ? Just on mine there still bare metal so think they may ?

I’ve attached pictures of the top and bottom bearing holder oop I can’t add pic to big

Yes, like wheel bearings - use a long drift from the other end of the headstock, butted up against the shoulder/top of the cups inside the headstock and wallop

Hi Simon

It’s not the outer bearings race I talking about but what they sit in.

I’ll try to show a picture

Yes thats what Im talking about, "the seats the bearings sit in"
The hard-chromed 'top hat' cups top-and-bottom in the headstock?
They each knock out from the other end, with a long drift

And when the chromed top hats are out you will probably see a couple of holes of about 3mm diameter to drive the outer race from the top hat.
All donations to the rest home for old Camels, Leicestershire.
