Hi all
On my mongrel 350 / 500 I have what I believe are circa 1978 350 dials
On the speedometer I don’t have a trip, I find this frustrating as on other period bikes I alway use this to guess how much range I left before I have to fill up.
Has anyone managed to retrofit a later speedometer with a trip
I did chat to gentleman who had a KPM version which I thought I could bastardise but these are for use on Left hand side of insurgent cluster ?
Any thoughts
David

Insurgent cluster, best keep your head down and eyes peeled! You are right that units from other models can be used if they have the orientation you want. I think the later types had the speedo on the left with a trip knob facing out to that side, and some also had a trip reset cable that exited vertically down from the base of the clock.

I did see an MRC member down in Penzance is selling a later model (Excalibur 350) speedo and tacho cluster on ebay (unrealsimon I think) but can't remember if they have a trip meter on them.

On the subject of Speedometers, does anyone do an overlay for the KMH clocks, mine is in KMH and I find myself continuousley converting KMH to MPH in my head.
Easiest solution I suppose is fit some markes on the dial but that looks naff.
Other half works for a printers so perhaps I could make an overlay myself and get it printed.

Have a new face printed on the reverse of the old one maybe?Andy_C wrote: ↑25 Oct 2024 18:08 On the subject of Speedometers, does anyone do an overlay for the KMH clocks, mine is in KMH and I find myself continuousley converting KMH to MPH in my head.

I have a bezel fitting tool and some chrome bezels if you want the finished bezel to look pukka.

Hmm, something worth thinking about.
If you dig around E Bay there are some GPS bicycle speedos about 2 " square and around the £17 - £20 mark, might consider one of those.
When I had my Enfield Bullet I fitted a bicycle speedo to that as the OE Indian one was total rubbish.

I don’ t have a trip on my Sport. I did get a converter for the speedo drive end from NLM in circa 2008.
I have checked the speedo against a sat nav 20 and 30 mph being correct but it is a bit under at 60 and above which is fine by me. When I went to France I just removed the converter. No idea if these are still available anywhere.
