Roadrider II - spliting?

Post by TheOls »

Hi folks,
Has anybody had an odd-looking “split” appear on an Avon roadrider II front tyre? The split has appeared after about 1500 miles - It’s approx 1.5mm deep (although in parts is much more shallow) and runs longitudinally just off the centre line for the whole circumference of the tyre. It does not look like a cut. The retailer has suggested that it is as a result of the moulding process and will disappear with use. The technical people at Goodyear (who now own Avon) have seen photos/video of the tyre and tell me that there is no manufacturing fault with the tyre. I was just wondering if anybody else has had anything similar?
Cheers - ian

Hello - mine had similar marks from new - its a while back but I do remember checking up on it somewhere and getting the same answer - just can't remember where I got the information from now! But it did put my mind at rest - Duncan

Probably worn out mould. Lack of investment in the factory, now closed.

2 bikes fitted with these and both had such a line, now barely visible.

Thanks chaps,
I’ll keep an eye on it and carry on - Goodyear have been in touch again and are clear that it’s an aesthetic rather than structural issue.
Cheers
