Fuse Ampage MK5 Strada

Post by funsize »

Evening all
My indicators stopped working on another rainy trip home. Checked the three fuses and one had failed, making me realise I don’t have any spares of this kind of fuse. I can’t find the ampage in the blue or green books, the writing is tiny on each but looks like 16A, would this be correct? Also, this is the middle one and I could do with knowing the ampage of the two either side of it, again they look like 16A but the writing is so small I can’t be sure. TIA

That does sound a familiar fuse rating. Those fuses in the original fuse box are colour coded like the later blade types. So if you take the old fuse to an electrical place you should be able to get replacements. I am sure you can order them from Vehicle Wiring Products in Derbyshire plus there will be other online suppliers too.

I just looked at their website and they are known as 'Continental' fuses. The ones you want and that appear grey in colour were probably white originally and rated at 8amp continuous and 16 amp fusing. Cost pennies so buy a bagfull!

Hi Steve

Thanks for the reply, most helpful. There’s three, oddly two to the left, a big gap then one right over to the right. They’re all red and all appear to be stamped 16A, though I wouldn’t bet my house on that! The bike has run great and had work done over winter so, as I don’t feel anything is amiss, I’ll look for the Continental fuses of this rating, unless of course I’m advised otherwise!

I have had my Sport since 2007 and apart from checking for waggling terminals on the fuseboard I have never touched them. This prompted me to do so and see what circuit was affected ( colour wiring diagram to hand)
Two on the far left- brown 15A. Removing left most took out headilght, next one took out brake indicator horn.
Did not try e-start etc. I have a non standard ign. switch.
One far right - blue 8A
What colour scheme is this?
I did not try any more.
Getting them back in required some sort of ‘O’ level. Don’t fancy that at the roadside in the rain. Might think about blades……

Thanks John, mine was the indicator, horn, brake light one, though all three of mine are red 16a. But I have bought a bag full, £2 for 30 I think, I can now carry some onboard :D

16 amp seems about right. I blew one fitting a replacement brake switch on mine.
By the way, I'm after the screw that holds the fuse cover on. Any cluse where to get one ?
Cheers
