carburation issues

Post by Bruce3500 »

I thought I would post this as talking to a Laverda owner at work, he has similar issues to carburation as us Morini owners,
As ethanol in the fuel now makes the fuel a poorer quality, has anybody tried using a quality octane boost? to any success,
I have been looking into this and the best appears ton be 'Torco Race Fuels unleaded accelerator' giving upto 105 octane depending on mix.
Your thoughts/trials would be much welcome,
Thanks Bruce.

The thing with Morinis and modern fuel isn't an octane thing though. it seems more about volatility or something else a bit technical. With our bikes a simple lowering of the idle jet size is usually enough to compensate, along with of course looking at the bits that wear like throttle needles and jets and float heights which seem to always be too high. If these don't fix a Morini it is probably the ignition that is lacking energy.
I seem to remember from my own brief Laverda ownership (3 of the 750 twins) that octane was thought to be more important to them. Maybe the additives will help there? The only additives I have bothered with are the stabiliser types for bikes that hibernate. That seems to work well on my lawnmower too.

Thanks Steve, it was worth an ask and yes a fuel stabiliser helps, will do the usual and go through everything again during lock down
and hopefully have a better running morini when we can use them, roll on freedom on the road.
