I have the tank off and empty at the moment and am considering using an internal sealant while it is off - can anyone recommend a suitable product.
touching up under the tank outside ( some of us don't have garages) and a seagull directly added to my work - is this lucky!
thanks - Duncan
tank sealant
Get Motorcycle Tank Repair Kit from Frosts and do exactly what it says in the instructions. I have used this on different bikes all to great effect. The Morini tank was rusted and in fact leaked but now it is fine. Much less rubbish getting into the fuel ways too.Do not get the sealant, which is like silver paint on any external surface as it sticks like sh*t to a blanket.
Make sure tank is dry internally as per instructions.

John,
This product sounds good and seems to be recommended by others as well. I have ordered some from Frosts to use myself. What did you use to seal the filler aperture and tap apertures? If you used duct tape, did any of the chemicals dissolve the adhesive? Did you use cork or some other 'bung' as well? I am concerned about chemicals leaking whilst rolling the tank around. Also, what will duct tape do to the paint job on the outside of the tank?

I would like to know how you seal the fuel tap aperture as well.
I heard a horror story once when someone used a resin type sealer that filled in the fuel tap hole and had to be chiselled out when dry taking out a large lump of sealer from the bottom of the tank with it, which then rattled around inside the tank, too large to come out of the filler hole.
I can't remember why, but I once put some black duct tape on my tank, and it pulled off the original black and silver pin-striping way too easily

When I did the tanks on my R60 and R100RS I found a couple of rubber bungs just fitted, with a bit of tape around them to seal in the sealant, but I removed them before it had gone off otherwise they would have been stuck. On the Morini I stuck tape over the holes then removed it and made sure I had no excess on the threads. If you let it go off on any threaded portions of taps/filler caps then you will have a tough time. It takes a while to harden, so you should be fine. You need to roll the tank about to get the sealant into all the seams and around the fuel tap ports ( usually where leaks seem to happen)Just watch you don't get it on your hands because everything you touch will turn silver...now where I have I heard something like this before?
Incidentally I have yet to see any of the material come off into the fuel.
