Early Sport D/drum

Post by Clarach44 »

I have recently purchased a D/D sport . It has the frame numberA/1 *05233 *. It has no engine number which I understand is correct for an Italian bike. It does have the S stamp on the engine. My Questions initially are. 1 ). Is this 74 or 75. 2) there is no SPORT emblem on the top fork yoke ? Would it have had one fitted. Hope someone can advise Peter

Hi Peter,

I have one that was built in late 1973 and its frame number is A/1 05179 DGM11040 OM, so that will help, the engine only had S on it which indicates a sport motor. The yoke on the early model did not have the Sport badge on the yoke, they didn't happen until 1975 along with indicators.

Cheers

Hi Brett, That's just the reply I wanted . I think logically that my bike is 1974 with its close number count to yours .it is a recent import from Italy Thanks Brett

Hello guys.
On the topic of double drum sports, mine has been modded with higher bars and Strada top yoke by a previous owner and in the process of putting it back to original spec it appears to me that the early sport top yoke must be a different casting to all later models.
The "keyhole" slots on top are an obvious difference but In offering up an original round hole light holder it doesn't fit snug against the edge of the later (1978) yoke I have sourced. I'm thinking the front of the early yoke is flat whereas the later ones are slightly v shaped. I actually think that the reinforcing ribs on the underside are different as well but I can't find enough detail in photos to verify any of this.
I know some of you out there have a double drum and a later model as well. I don't want to modify anything I have until I know what I'm supposed to have.
If anyone would have a look and let me know the detail differences in the top yoke I'd be grateful.

Thanks,
Mark.

Hello Mark. I hope I am interpreting your post correctly . My 74 sport has the keyhole slots to aid clamping and the top surface has 2 slightly raised blocks ( maybe .1 mm high ) The front drop edge is flat without a V . The underside is ribbed around the periphery and 1 single rib pointing forward Does this make sense. Peter

This the top yoke on mine, it never had the Sport logo. Simon

Thanks for the info and photo guys.
I've now learnt there are a few differences in the early ones.
I'll modify and fit the later model yoke I have while I look around for an original one.
Cheers,
Mark.
