oh dear!

Post by dunk 1 »

took the bike out today to warm it up so that I could do the timing and balance the carbs after about 6 miles it went on to one cylinder something which has happened before I limped it home but when i got there I noticed that there was oil coming from the front cylinder - the one that had stopped working - around the exhaust collar - I would love their to be a simple explanation for this but assume that I am going to have to take the head and barrel off but would appreciate any advice as to what I will be looking for. thanks - duncan

Take a closer look at the 'oil'.
I think you will find it is petrol with lots of carbon dissolved in it.

If a transducer has blown, the petrol in the cylinder is not ignited and tends to weep out through the exhaust port.

I once had to ride home from the Isle of Man to Norwich on the front cylinder. I should have disconnected the cable to the rear carb so it was not opening the same as the front one. It leaked out of the exhaust and sprayed the side of the bike and my leg with what I thought was oil.
