Starter Motor Oil

Post by unreal »

As I start to refresh the fluids in the Strada I've just bought, which has been standing for years, one has me stumped. The book recommends SAE 70EP for the starter motor. This seems to be no longer available. Oils have changed in the last 30 years.
So what do people use now?
Also is there anything else to worth lubeing on the started?

Si

I think any gear oil will do... SAE 80 would then be the most logical choice

I'd make sure the chain is lubricated and that it is not so slack it can rub the inside of the cover. The motor has a small oil seal which could leak if damaged but easy to replace.(Or it was when I did mine) Guess you can have the motor casing apart to clean up the contact points whilst your at it.
Well...it can work.

Thanks for looking and the answers, the local scooter shop have SAE 80 gear oil in 110ml bottles which should do the trick.

Cheers
