fuel cap catch

Post by Parker3865 »

Hello, me again...
I am also refurbishing the fuel cap. Can anyone tell me if the front locking catch should have a spring? Picture below. Mine does not. My tank being painted so I can't fit it to see if it works without one.
Thanks.

I was rather hoping you were going to source bits or a replacement cap as his fuel cap catch doesn't. :?

Hi,
Is that paint where the seal fits? If so, be wary. On mine the fuel tracked under the paint and took it off. Not just where the seal fits, but around the outside of the cap mounting/filler neck onto the tank top too.
Typically, there was an article in one of the classic mags the following month telling people not to paint there.
Mine now has no paint in the sealing area, just petrol proof lacquer and all is well.
Regards,
George

Yes it is paint, yes I have read about it. I'll see how it goes. A friend painted it for me. He did a tank on another bike and I did not have problems with that. I'll report back if I have problems. Thanks.
