250 2C tyres

Post by Parky »

Hi. I have just bought a 1983 250 and it’s on rather worn Avon Street Runner tyres that are nine years old. I’ll be looking for tyres that are grippy and not too worried about how well they wear. Any recommendations?
Thanks

I'm happy with the Metzeler ME22 tyres I have on the 2C/375.

Mind you, they are getting a bit long in the tooth now. Still seem good.

The Michelin (IIRC) tyres I had on the CB250RS I bought last year turned out to be twenty years old! Replaced with Avons - miraculous improvement.

Thanks for the thoughts. The Metzeler ME20 sounds pretty good but hard to understand reviews from superb to rubbish. Think I’ll wait till the weather gets better and give the Avon’s a good run out.
The rear tyre is a 3.00. X 18. Has anyone any experience of using a slightly wider one? I presume that a 3.0 was fitted as standard for the best all round results but who knows what’s best, 40 years later.
Best wishes

Hi Parky,

Good to hear of another 250

I agree with 72degrees 100%

ME22s all the way, don't read reviews, ask people who ride them, you can go 3.25 on the rear but not 3.50
We have owned 250s since 93.
I also have a 250 2C with Avon roadriders, too big especially the front... stay with the Metzelers.

Cheers

Well I’ve done it. Fitted a pair of Metzlers which I hope are going to be grand. However the weather up here has been so bad recently that I haven’t had chance to give them a good trial. Regret that I could be turning into a fair weather biker!
