old bobbin removal

Post by Parker3865 »

I am having a go at winding a new low tension ignition coil. (See a previous post).
I have printed a bobbin in TPU (material I have to hand and good enough heat range, even if a bit rubbery). I have also constructed a Heath-Robinson coil winder. So 2 questions:-
1) Any hints or tips for removing the old coil. I have the copper retaining plates removed, how do I get the old bobbin off? Preferably without destroying it!

2) I have wound about 3200 turns onto my bobbin. It looks very full! I guess I did not have enough wire tension on it when winding. It measures 310 Ohms. Will it be ok or do I need to do it again? (I do hope not, 3 hours-ish to monitor it while it winds).

So a bit of brute force and a little ignorance! I have used a drift and light tapping through the hole on one side and again on the other:

Then used some emery paper to clean up the laminations.

I mean the light coils are the strongest. The original ignitoin coil is similar to the other alterators.

Yes, just struggling with the ignition side.

I have just watched Paul Compton's video about the ignition coil, mostly what I did BUT should have watched this earlier!
